The Bergen County Emergency Rental Assistance Program is open on June 14th for applications from tenants whose household incomes are at or below 80% area median income (AMI). Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis while program funding is available or up until the deadline of July 23rd 2021, whichever comes first. Landlords may register at any time. Important Notice: Applying for the ERAP is free and one-on-one application assistance for tenants is available in English and Spanish by contacting the ERAP Call Center 855-203-6952. Please be wary of any request for payment to apply to this program.

If You Are Experiencing Homelessness or At Risk of Homelessness: If you are experiencing homelessness or facing imminent homelessness, please contact the following groups:

  • Family Households call Bergen County HEARTS Program (201)-488-2525; Calls made After Hours or on Weekends, please contact 2-1-1 and they will assist you with immediate, temporary housing needs and refer you to the appropriate agency for continued services
  • Single Adult Households call Bergen County Housing, Health, and Human Services Center (201)-336-6475; Calls made After Hours or on Weekends, please contact 2-1-1 and they will assist you with immediate, temporary housing needs and refer you to the appropriate agency for continued services
  • Victims of Domestic Violence call (201)-336-7575 or Center for Hope and Safety’s 24 hour hotline (201)-944-9600

Emergency Rental Assistance Program

New Jersey Emergency Rental Assistance Program is intended to assist renters and landlords directly impacted by COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. This program was created to direct federal funds in a manner that provides immediate relief, prevents homelessness, and supports long-term community health and stability.

This program will help our community's COVID-19-impacted renters cover some or all of their past-due rent and utilities through payments to their landlords and utility provider.
